01 — The Name

Sue & Mitsue

Mitsue Collective is named after my grandmothers, Sue and Mitsue.

Grandma Sue spent a lot of time in Baja and always packed a digestive remedy from Japan when she went. Years later, when I started making my own trips down there, I did the same.

Grandma Mitsue grew up in Japan and was always the person in our family who knew a home remedy for something. A lot of that knowledge came from growing up with limited resources and using what was available. She was especially big on digestive health and believed that health starts in the gut.

Those remedies and that way of thinking were passed down through my family. Eventually, they became part of how I traveled too.

That's where the name comes from.

Built from experience

I've always had a sensitive stomach, so digestive remedies were a normal part of growing up. Some of my earliest memories are of not wanting to take them. They were extremely bitter, you had to take quite a few at once, and the smell was overwhelming.

As I got older, I started traveling more for surf and food, and I kept bringing those remedies with me. Unfamiliar meals, different water, and changes in routine were exactly the kinds of situations when I wanted to have something with me, but what I grew up taking wasn't exactly made for travel. The smell alone could take over an entire backpack or suitcase.

I wanted something that served the same purpose in my life, but that I'd actually want to pack and take.

04 — Our Approach

Mitsue Digest brings six botanicals together in a single coated tablet designed for occasional digestive support.

The coating helps mask the strong herbal taste and smell I grew up with. The compact bottle is intentionally plastic rather than glass, so I don't have to worry about it breaking in a backpack, carry-on, or toiletry bag.

It's not something you're meant to take every day. It's there when you want digestive support, whether you're traveling or at home.
